How I keep books alive

This post will give an overview, on how I 'keep books alive': how I manage to save and retrieve useful information even years after having read a book.

Everything which I find interesting, I like or think I'll need for further reference, I'll underline.

I either export the extracts from my Kindle, or, dictate them to my PC if it is a paper book.

Each extract becomes it's own obsidian note.

I give a title to each extract and then hope that fuzzy search will find the note, once I need it.

If I sense value in doing it, I dabble in a "Zettelkasten light": I link related notes to the highlight, add my thoughts to it or try to explain the concept in my own words, to see if I have truly understood it.

This method has been in place for around 6 years now, and I can confidently state, that it is working, and can source all my outrageous claims shockingly fast.
